CAN WE BRING DOGS

Unfortunately dogs are not permitted on the springs walk unless they are certified service dogs therefore the dogs certification needs to be presented upon arrival and the dog needs to remain on there leash at all times  
The reason for this we are a wildlife refuge or sanctuary

What should I wear and bring?

Flat walking shoes, camera, comfortable clothing, rain or sun protection as necessary, baby pushchair (with sturdy wheels) if needed.

How long does it take?

You can explore Hamurana Springs at your own pace on a self-guided walk. If pressed for time the main trail can be completed in 30 minutes, however we suggest allowing at least 1 hour to enjoy the wildlife and discover all cultural sites.  

Allow at least 1.5 hours for the guided tour option.

How fit do I need to be?

The trails at Hamurana Springs are suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

When is the best time to come?

Hamurana Springs is beautiful at any time of the day. Most visitors come to Hamurana Springs mid-morning to early afternoon, so the springs is quieter first thing in the morning and later in the afternoon.

Do you have guided tours?

Yes, we offer a guided tours to small and large groups. If possible we ask that all tours are booked at least 48 hours in advance.

We prefer to keep guided tours intimate and capped at 10 people. However with sufficient notice we can develop an experience that will suit larger groups as well. Please contact us if you would like to book or if you have any questions.

How do I get there?

Hamurana Springs is a 15 minute drive from Rotorua. Follow State Highway 5 and continue on to State Highway 36 taking a left once you pass the Hamurana Golf course.

What is Hamurana Springs like when it’s raining?

Hamurana Springs is stunning in the rain! The rain and cloud add to the atmosphere of the forest and river features. If you are wearing a good rain jacket, or have an umbrella, you will have a great time.

Please note that during high winds we will close for health and safety precautions due to the risk of falling branches in the forest.

Do you have Chinese speaking guides?

We do not have Chinese speaking staff and at this stage can only offer English speaking tour guides.

Can I get locals card?

Yes, Rotorua locals can apply for an electronic locals pass which costs from $25 and is valid for 12 months from date of issue. The pass will allow unlimited access to our self-guided walks during hours of operation.

Just bring along proof of your Rotorua address and photo I.D or student ID to apply for the local card.
Please allow at least 10 minutes to process.
Alternatively you can complete the following form and make the process a lot quicker when you arrive on site. 

Does a discount apply to Ngāti Rangiwewehi tribal members?

Ngāti Rangiwewehi tribal members can apply for our iwi card by completing the following online form. You must be registered on the iwi database to be eligible for the iwi card.

If you are not sure of your iwi number then still complete the form and one of our office staff will make contact to confirm. Registrations can be made in person at the iwi office (Tarimano Marae) or email office@rangiwewehi.com if you have any queries.

Is Hamurana Springs suitable for children?

Yes, Hamurana Springs is a great option for families. The walking trails are suitable for all ages and the children often enjoy discovering the wildlife. There is lots to learn and keep the children entertained and plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy a picnic.

Is there food and drink available?

There is a selection of hot and cold food and drink available to purchase and enjoy in the onsite Golf Club. The Golf Club is a licensed premise. Any alcohol purchased from us must be consumed within the licensed premise. We do not allow BYO alcohol.

Can I bring my own food & drink?

You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks (except alcohol) to enjoy at one of our picnic areas in the reserve. Please do not bring your food into the Golf Club area.

Are there toilets on-site?

There are toilets for all visitors located in the golf club and café near the carpark at Hamurana Springs.

Can I take photos?

Of course! There are so many fantastic opportunities to take photos and we’d love to see them! Feel free to share them on social media and #Hamurana Springs.

Photos and videos for commercial purposes will require approval from management as per our terms and conditions.

I have an event coming up, can I hire a private space for my function?

You are responsible for your personal safety while visiting Hamurana Springs. Please obey signage and the instructions of Hamurana Springs staff. Children must always be supervised.
